Global Smartphone OS Market Share Q4 2011
2011 was the year in which Android doubled its share of the global smartphone market from less than a quarter to almost half. The smartphone market itself grew to nearly half a billion units. Growth was fuelled almost entirely by Android and Apple. There was a significant fightback by iOS against the advancing Android tide in Q4 2011, as Apple launched its new 4S model in multiple countries. Due to a surge in Apple and Android, all other platforms suffered, as Symbian continued to sunset, the launch of BlackBerry 7 provided less of a boost than expected, and "NokiaSoft" got off to a modest start. This report tracks global smartphone operating system shipments and marketshare on a quarterly basis from 2007 to Q4 2011.
