Apple Becomes Worlds Largest Smartphone Vendor in Q4 2011
Global smartphone shipments grew 54% annually and reached a record 155 million units in the fourth quarter of 2011. Full-year volumes neared half a billion units last year. Apple reclaimed top spot as the world’s largest smartphone vendor due to surging demand for the new iPhone 4S model in developed markets. Meanwhile, Nokia’s Microsoft Lumia portfolio got off to a lackluster start during its first quarter of availability, although historical trends indicate this need not be a worry in the longer-term.
