Strategy Analytics tracked global smartphone shipments (sell in) declined -6% MoM and -5% YoY in April 2019 mainly due to inventory adjustments, saturated smartphone market and extended replacement cycle etc. Sales (sell through) to end users posted a -4% annual decline, indicating major OEMs have completely cleaned up inventories piled up from previous months. Meanwhile, new inventories are starting to pile up due to the improved outlook of smartphone market in 2019. We might see some shifts in the following few months. Samsung top both shipment and sales chart this month, followed by Huawei, Apple, Xiaomi, OPPO and vivo by shipment volume.
