Handset shipments grew just +8% annually in China and +5% in India during Q1 2012. Samsung overtook Nokia as the number one vendor in China for the first time ever. Local brands, such as Micromax, captured 6 of the top 10 spots in India. Pantech fell to fourth place in South Korea. Meanwhile, Fujitsu continued to fend off Apple and maintain the leading position across the high-value Japan market.
