Global mobile service revenue was flat in Q3 2014, pulled back by weakness in the Chinese market. Revenue continues to migrate to data connectivity and, while this transition has created a competitive bump in the China, the outlook for 2015 is more positive. Greater availability of 4G networks, larger smartphone screen sizes and more demand for (video) content are all helping to stimulate interest in larger data plans and, as a result, increase usage levels. However, as competition on larger bundles increases, operators will need to work hard to avoid the temptation of excessive value for money enhancements too far down the market.
