Samsung global handset shipments in Q4 2017 were down by -4% YoY, the lowest level in 6 years. However, the handset ASP and revenue grew YoY thanks to the improved product mix due to an increase in flagship smartphones shipments, such as S8 and Note 8. Samsung needs to prioritize (1) addressing the emerging on-device AI trend and (2) exploring display-led form-factor innovations to fend off competitions and to maximize the profits.
