Mobile phone manufacturing across India fell sharply between 2012 and 2014. But a recent “Make in India” program by the government has set the ball rolling for a recovery of handset production in 2016, with several major OEMs / ODMs like Samsung and Micromax planning new plants or expanding current facilities. This will be the “second coming” for India’s cellphone industry. Component suppliers, such as Qualcomm and MediaTek, can experience good growth opportunities here in the next few years.
