Report Summary:

This report tracks 25 emerging handset vendors on a quarterly basis, capturing a combined 6% global marketshare in Q3 2011. Micromax, Coolpad, and Tianyu were the leading microvendors in Q3 2011. Pressured by Nokia’s ramp-up of its dual-SIM offering, microvendors’ annual growth slipped, while volumes remained flat sequentially. Nevertheless, the largest microvendors continued expanding their operations beyond their domestic markets to emerging markets of Africa, Latin America, and other SAARC countries in search of greater scale and improved brand awareness. The vendors’ offerings are becoming more sophisticated, with 3G Android smartphones and superphones, as well as localized value-added services.
