Despite mild component shortages, global handset shipments reached 350 million units in Q1 2011, rising a healthy 17% from 298 million units a year earlier. Nokia maintained its marketshare above the psychologically important 30% level during the quarter, while LG’s mixed performance in feature phones capped volumes. Apple captured fourth place in global handset shipments, rising from sixth position a year earlier and leapfrogging rival ZTE. Motorola registered its first positive volume growth in over 4 years.
