Smart displays are growing in popularity and accounted for 26% of all smart speakers sold worldwide in 2020. Products are available in a variety of screen sizes from less than 5-inches to more than 15-inches, enabling consumers to make a selection depending on the room they wish to use it in. Display products with screen sizes of 5-inches or less are proving popular as bedside clock replacements while mid-sized displays (7-10-inches) are often better suited to uses cases such as video calling and media consumption and are typically placed in more communal areas of the home such as the kitchen or living room. Larger smart displays such as Facebook’s Portal have been primarily marketed as dedicated video chat devices, incorporating advanced camera tracking functionality.
