With the recent launch of the Echo Plus, along with several updates to the Alexa platform, it’s clear that Amazon isn’t content with providing only the voice control layer in the smart home and wants to own more of the experience. While Amazon’s solution still lacks plenty of features present on popular smart home platforms like SmartThings and Wink, the updates do bring the company closer to offering an end-to-end solution. For competitors, it’s worth thinking about where Amazon may go next, whether that’s installing smart home solutions based around the Echo Plus via its Home Services team or adding on additional services such as security and healthcare monitoring.
