Report Summary:

The global market for smart home systems and services is developing into a major opportunity for technology and service providers as well as firms in other industries from retail to insurance. Consumer spending on smart home related hardware, services and installation fees will reach nearly $73B in 2016 and grow at a 16% CAGR to nearly $130B by 2020. By 2020 more than 230M homes worldwide or about one in eight will have at least one type of smart system installed. This forecast data table presents Strategy Analytics' global forecast and key planning assumptions for Smart Home Systems and Services for the period 2010 to 2020. It includes detailed projections for smart home segments such as Interactive security, remote and whole home control, digital health care, whole home and remote entertainment systems, and smart appliances.

In addition, breakouts for the major devices sold as part of interactive security and remote self-monitoring solutions are provided in separate TABs. The end user value of these devices will reach $6.5B in 2016 and grow at a 15% CAGR to over $11B by 2020.

This edition of the Global Consolidated Smart Home forecast incorporates the following changes:
*  Revisions in household estimates and projections utilizing the latest US Census Bureau, European Statistical System (ESS) and national country estimates and projections where available . These revisions resulted in an overall increase in the baseline household count used in the forecast GLOBALLY, but a decrease in key markets including the US.
*  Use of only Fixed Wired Broadband households (excluding mobile only broadband households) as the adoption base for Smart Home systems and services. This change reduced the number of broadband households in key markets in the US and Western Europe; globally the number increased slightly due to more optimistic broadband forecasts in Asia and rest of World.
*  Other changes are discussed on the “Key Points” TAB

The net effect of these changes was to slightly reduce the overall number of Smart Homes forecasted as well as total consumer spending on Smart Home Systems and Services compared with the 2014 edition of the forecast. The percentage of households and broadband households with Smart Home systems and services remains virtually unchanged from the prior edition.
