Report Summary:

Sony posted quarterly revenue of US$18.80 billion, a gain of 8% year-on-year, as the Mobile Products & Communications, Pictures, Music, and Financial Services segments all raked in double-digit growth over the year-ago quarter. Sony has made progress in approaching breakeven in CE device segments, but it is clear that the weakening Japanese yen has played an outsized role in this process in Q1 2013. A four-quarter forecast is provided in this report for unit sales for Flat Panel TVs and Game Consoles including PS4 and PS Vita. This report analyzes four of Sony’s reporting segments: Imaging Products & Solutions (e.g., digital cameras, video cameras), Game, Mobile Products & Communications (e.g., smartphones, PCs), and Home Entertainment & Sound (e.g., Televisions, Blu-ray Disc Players, Audio Systems, Memory-based Portable Audio Devices).
