US shipments of Connected TV Devices grew just 0.2% during Q1 2020 to reach 16.6 million units bringing the overall number of such devices installed in US homes to 355 million. COVID-19 related disruption to the retail environment through Q2 2020 will result in an overall 10% drop in shipments in the second quarter of the year. The smart TV market will suffer the largest annual decline in Q2 with shipment levels expected to be more than 20% lower than the previous year. However, the market for standalone media streaming players is showing resilience in the face of the pandemic following a surge in streaming video users during the lockdown/shelter in place period. Standalone media streaming player shipments grew 11% in Q1 2020 and are expected to increase a further 3% in Q2.
