Global Consumer Electronics device trade revenues are expected to fall by 13.3% in 2020 to US$616 billion as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to have a wide ranging impact on the industry. Supply side disruption concerns during the early stages of the crisis have been replaced by significant demand side worries as global economies stall, unemployment levels skyrocket and electronics retail store visits are heavily restricted. Some product categories have been better insulated against the virus than others while the widespread stay at home orders have even led to a short term boost in demand for products such as flat panel TVs, notebooks and smart speakers and displays in certain countries. Much uncertainty remains as we enter a period of global recession and the risk of a significant second wave of  infections may delay the economic recovery. Furthermore, it remains to be seen whether many of the changing consumer lifestyle and work patterns that have emerged or accelerated as a result of the pandemic become permanent as this may have a profound impact on the technologies we choose to adopt.
