The recent announcement of Sony's PlayStation 4 Pro console and the pending release of Microsoft's Project Scorpio in 2017 represent a new dawn for the Game Console industry. The days of fixed hardware configurations for the seven to eight year life cycle of a console appear to be over as Sony and Microsoft are both set to launch new system architectures just three to four years after the launch of the PS4 and Xbox One. Meanwhile, Nintendo has publicly announced its intention to launch its new NX console in early 2017 which it hopes will fare much better than the disappointing Wii U. This report updates Strategy Analytics' Global Game Console forecast in light of recent hardware announcements.
