The global smartphone applications processor (AP) market declined -8 percent year-on-year to $4.7 billion in Q1 2016. This can be attributed to increased price competition and a high concentration of mid-to-low range AP shipments. Despite a 17 percent fall in revenues from last quarter, Qualcomm maintained its top spot in the global smartphone AP market with 37 percent revenue share followed by MediaTek and Apple. Samsung LSI recorded its highest ever quarterly revenue figures, up 62 percent from Q1 2015 and up 87 percent from Q4 2015. HiSilicon, MediaTek and Spreadtrum also recorded strong year-on-year revenue growth. This report tracks stand-alone and integrated smartphone applications processor unit shipments, revenue market share and ASPs for 18 chip vendors from Q1 2008 to Q2 2016.
