Report Summary:

Rapid evolution of transistor technologies continued in 2018. Strategy Analytics estimates that smartphone applications processors (APs) manufactured using FinFET process technologies including 16 nm, 14 nm, 12 nm, 10 nm and 7 nm  registered a solid 33 percent year-on-year shipment growth in 2018. FinFET technology first appeared in flagship devices in 2015, continued to gain strong traction and in 2018 several mid-range and low-end APs also adopted this technology. 28 nm chips, despite steep decline, maintained their market leadership in 2018.  This report tracks global smartphone AP vendors’ shipments by process technology and provides 18 AP vendor shipments across 10 key process nodes from 2008 to 2018 on an annual basis.
