While the number of new vessels brought into service is low, most vessels will have an array of radar systems that cover different functions, including early warning search, search and track and fire control. This will be supplemented by retrofit and upgrade activity, collectively driving the market for shipborne radar systems at a CAGR of just over 5 percent through 2022. The move towards multifunctional radar systems will help drive demand for AESA-based systems. Tube-based power amplifiers will still see demand for high power requirements though the forecast predicts a declining market as future systems focus on GaN technology both for AESA-based systems, as well as underpinning solutions targeting tube replacement.
