GaAs Device Industry Closes up in 2012
Driven by strong growth in the fourth quarter, GaAs device revenue closed 2012 at slightly more than $5.3 billion. This performance propelled revenue to a new record, but the growth rate struggled, falling to slightly below 2%. With the exception of 2009, when the global economy took a sharp dip and the GaAs market fought back to breakeven, the growth rate of 2012 was lower than it has been since revenue in the GaAs device market began a steady upward climb in 2004. With data consumption continuing to climb, short-term prospects for continued growth in the GaAs device market look promising, but there are strong indications that the longer-term future could be rocky.
