The World’s first racing series featuring pure electric powertrains, Formula E, begins on September 12th, with the first race taking place in Beijing. At the race, there will be four safety cars. They, too, will be electrified vehicles – two BMW i3 and two BMW i8 cars, but modified to be charged wirelessly by Formula E sponsor, Qualcomm. With forthcoming announcements on electrified models launching in 2016, this signals the coming deployment of wireless charging systems for plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles.
