The 14th Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition (Auto Shanghai) took place at the end of April, with its theme being “Innovation for Tomorrow”. The event featured car makers from 20 different countries. While domestic car makers dominated four of the halls and their products demonstrate the rapid advance in the use of improved combustion engine powertrains, the development of electrified powertrain models, and increasing levels of electronic content, the signs elsewhere at the event and externally from the market suggest that domestic OEMs will face a tough battle to maintain market share against growing competition and growing demands for consolidation in the industry.
