Report Summary:

Sustained demand coupled with price rises will mean the automotive semiconductor market will show a strong upwards trajectory in 2021, growing by 12.4% year-on-year (including sensors). With vehicle production assumed to normalize in 2022, and a strong push towards electrification driving production and associated demand across all regions, the forecasted compound average annual growth rate (CAAGR) for automotive semiconductor dollar demand, including sensors, over the 5 year period 2020 to 2025 is expected to be +17.4%. Excluding semiconductor-based sensors, the CAAGR for automotive semiconductor dollar demand is expected to be even higher at +18.2%. The global automotive semiconductor market value is forecast to be $78.1 billion by 2025, and reach $103.4 billion by 2028 (including semiconductor-based sensors). This outlook includes an inherent assumption that the present semiconductor shortages will not develop into a potential oversupply scenario as a result of double-bookings, which would lead to an inventory correction and a false slowdown in automotive semiconductor demand in 2023-2024.

This data forecast provides the latest metrics identifying size and growth rate of the future semiconductor demand total across the Powertrain, Body, Chassis, Safety, and Driver Information application domains for the main light vehicle producing regions: North America, Japan, Europe, Russia, South Korea, China, India, Brazil, Thailand and ROW.

Electric Vehicles

Governments and environmentalists alike continue to push, rightfully so, to create cleaner methods of transport. But can electric vehicles fill that requirement? How can consumers be persuaded to switch? And is the automotive supply chain actually ready for this change?
