Report Summary:

The United States’ Federal Communications Commission voted November 17, 2020 to repurpose previously “protected” spectrum to allow for the expansion of unlicensed Wi-Fi use.  The move disadvantaged Wi-Fi-based dedicated short-range communications (DSRC) technology in the battle to enable vehicle-to-vehicle communications and appeared to clear the way for C-V2X albeit within a narrower band of spectrum. This Insight examines the implications of this decision for the automotive industry.
