Strategy Analytics conducted an expert evaluation of the Maven car-sharing service from GM. The reliance on a Bluetooth-enabled smartphone for vehicle access, return, and other tasks makes for a seamless and secure experience. However, accessing the vehicle requires the user to be in close proximity, and the app’s connection to a reserved vehicle was not always reliable. The leveraging of OnStar for in-vehicle help is a useful touch. Within the mobile app, Maven cars are easy to search for by location or type. While Maven serves some of the top car-sharing use cases quite well, it is insufficient for many others, and changes are recommended.
