Strategy Analytics conducted a user experience evaluation of the Congestion Assist semi-autonomous driving system in the 2017 Audi A4. Congestion Assist controls are co-located with controls for other relevant functions, but are hidden, making first-time use difficult. Visual assets rely on small cluster icons, larger text warnings, and an optional schematic. Driver-to-system hand-offs are missing one critical HMI aspect. Congestion Assist scored relatively low on the IVX rating scale for semi-autonomous systems, as the overall practicality of the system remains in question.
