Strategy Analytics surveyed vehicle owners in the US, Western Europe, and China regarding their interest in a vehicle which uses a mobile phone app for access, rather than a key or a fob. Consumers’ interest in “going keyless” is wide-ranging, but the strongest levels of interest are confined to very specific demographics. Keyless technology provides a number of benefits to automakers and consumers, but narrow demand and the limitations of the technology itself evoke questions about its readiness for a wider market.
