Consumer Automotive HMI Trends
Strategy Analytics recently presented at the IQPC Automotive Cockpit conference in Darmstadt, Germany. The event focused on trends in automotive HMI and on new and innovative options such as gestural interfaces. Based on Strategy Analytics’ research, touchscreens are the preferred interface among consumers, and are now becoming more widely adopted among European OEMs. Speech recognition is better-suited to tasks requiring text input and selecting items from lengthy lists. Gestural interfaces are not optimally suited for the automotive environment due to the lack of intuitive gestures and training that will be required for users.
