Report Summary:

Strategy Analytics conducted an expert evaluation of advanced parking assistants in several vehicles in order to construct a series of UX and HMI-focused best practices for these systems.  The smooth end-to-end parking automation in the BMW i3 is a game-changing innovation, with only small HMI changes recommended.  While the technology is undeniably impressive in all other implementations, the HMI in several requires a great deal of refinement.  Additionally, we question whether a system which merely steers the vehicle and requires the user to brake and accelerate adds enough value to make such a system desirable for the mass market.  Recommendations include intuitive control locations and clear parking space indicators.
