We know that car journeys are where much of the consumers’ radio-listening originates. Radio is easy, you don’t need to think of what you’re in the mood for to get it going; radio is companionship, it is community, it is news, from local to international, and much more. Radio has always been the queen of the dashboard in the Western countries, but we know that the competition has increased and that non-linear media content such streamed music and podcasts are now following upon the heels of radio.

Whilst we believe at Strategy Analytics that there is still a very specific need for broadcast radio, and that streaming services are complimentary in different circumstances and for different types of journeys, radio stakeholders need to be aware of the extent of the competition in the dash and of automotive trends impacting them. This will allow them to adapt to the changes and help radio to remain queen not only in the near but also in the mid and long-term future.
