The advent of autonomous vehicles and emergency braking requirements in traffic intersections by 2020 will lead to growth in demand for automotive RADARs. Furthermore, the performance requirements in RADARs will increase as they will have to provide enhancement in sensing accuracy and redundancy to cover a wider range of applications to include pedestrian recognition and curb stone detection. This report will look at the new technologies and strategies being developed to meet these new requirements, such as the recent announcements of new RF CMOS chip sets to lower cost, size and power consumption.
