Summary

3D printing was one of the stars of the recent CES in Las Vegas. Alongside a series of panel debates a significant number of 3D printing companies occupied a dedicated zone in the South Hall, most of which seemed to be pretty busy for the four days of the event. 3D printing is not a new technology but the question on everyone’s minds at CES was whether this was the beginning of a new mass market in consumer electronics. This report gives Strategy Analytics’ perspectives on this question after in-depth discussions with many of the key players in this emerging industry. It examines the key obstacles to success and presents scenarios for market development over the next 15 years, including projections for revenues, sales and household ownership. This report is published in conjunction with detailed spreadsheet models presented in “Home 3D Printers: Global Forecast Scenarios”.
