Summary

Broadband service providers in the US and Canada added 968,000 new subscribers in the first quarter of 2012 – a 42% decline year-over-year and a 9% drop quarter-over-quarter. Furthermore the Canadian market added the fewest amount of Broadband subscribers since 2007. The momentum from 2011’s “bounce back” fourth quarter in North America did not carry over into the new year and the trend of declining Broadband net adds in North America seems poised to extend further into 2012. Time Warner Cable topped the Top 10 BSP’s net additions ranking bolstering their Broadband customer base by 762,000 subscribers after the completion of the Insight acquisition. Cablevision was back in the Top 10 net adds rankings at number 8 after missing the Top 10 for the last three quarters. Additionally, AT&T was able to regain some traction after posting net Broadband subscriber losses in Q4’11. This interactive database summarizes quarterly subscriber growth trends for the 26 leading Broadband Service Providers (BSPs) operating in the United States and Canada. In addition to tracking subscribers, market shares and selected financial metrics, the report also provides operator-level subscriber forecasts for 2012. The report also contains a flat file of all data, allowing clients to create customized pivot tables.
