Summary

The CTIA Enterprise and Applications Show presents an excellent bellwether for the direction of the wireless enterprise market, and the October 2011 show was no different. Managing devices, apps, Android, Unified Communications and M2M, were the hot topics. Making Android “enterprise-ready” was the central theme, together with the challenge of managing devices and applications in the enterprise, from OEM efforts to manage their products, through to carriers looking to offer managed services to handle the increasing diversity of products and platforms emerging in the enterprise driven by the growth in consumerization of IT trends, such as BYOD (Bring-your-own) device. Also in evidence was a clear attempt from carriers such as AT&T and Verizon as well as companies such as Polycom to provide impetus into the enterprise Unified Communications (UC) and video conferencing market. Finally, the burgeoning M2M market witnessed excellent participation from across the entire value chain, from carriers to VARs, to platform providers and module makers and displayed some interesting developments that indicate the direction the M2M market will take over the coming years.
