Summary

Notable highlights in August included the deployment of a new radar from Northrop Grumman designed to detect people moving on the ground, while Raytheon continues deployment of its APG-79(V) multimode AESA radar supporting the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet which also be used to upgrade F/A-18E/Fs currently equipped with the APG-73 radar. In electronic warfare, BAE Systems received contracts for the Joint Strike Fighter Program and is also working with Alliant Techsystems to jointly develop a next-generation missile and gunfire warning system for military helicopters and other rotorcraft. Thales and Harris dominated communications contract activity while Boeing was joined by Utah State University as recipients of the largest optoelectronics-related contracts.
