LGE began to turn its performance around in 1Q12, in 2Q12 fell back after reductions across 3 of its 4 major divisions, and in 3Q12 posted a fall in revenue year on year and an operating profit that, while positive, generated a margin of under 2%. In Mobile Comms, LGE continued to struggle amid intense competition from Apple and Samsung among others. Home Entertainment posted reduced revenues; AirCon had a seasonally low quarter. It is part of LGE's strength in diversity that its Home Appliance division returned the second largest revenues and the highest operating profit and margin in 3Q12. This GFP Dossier illustrates the scope of the challenge facing LGE, and its strategies for recovery.Quantitative and qualitative contributions from other SA programs including Wireless Smartphone Strategies and Wireless Device Strategies are gratefully acknowledged.
