As the Director of Apps Research at Strategy Analytics, Mr. Martin is responsible for overseeing the two research services he launched in 2011: AppTRAX and App Ecosystem Opportunities.Recognizing the dearth of granular data in the apps market Mr. Martin undertook an initiative to create a compelling data set that clients could leverage in order to contextualize the market. After many months he perfected a system of amassing millions of data points from the major app platforms which became the AppTRAX database. The database – which is updated weekly and available to clients through a web based interface – helps provide context to the fluid market.App Ecosystem Opportunities provides the granular data that clients clamor for. Answering questions such as which platforms are generating the most revenue today and in the future. Which app stores are the most competitive? How can companies avoid disintermediation?Before coming to Strategy Analytics Josh had a long history in the market research industry. He started his career at IDC where he initiated coverage on the Blu-ray and HD-DVD video format war correctly predicting that Blu-ray would inevitably be the winning format. After leaving IDC, Mr. Martin joined Yankee Group where he covered connected devices and the changing business models they introduced. While there he produced an innovative client controlled forecast on connected devices empowering clients to change inputs.Mr. Martin has spent nearly a decade analyzing the bleeding edge of distribution. From physical formats, to the internet, to connected devices, and now to apps he has helped companies understand the challenges of new distribution channels, how to avoid cannibalizing existing revenue streams, and best ways to utilize new technology to get consumers to buy content and services.Josh Martin received his BS in business from Babson College in 2002.
