Data for the first 8 months of vehicle sales in the United States of America shows that demand for light trucks (sport utilities, minivans and pick-ups) has fallen by around 20% over the same period in 2007. Demand for passenger cars has seen a relatively modest 2% fall, leading to an overall market decline of 11%. This switch from light trucks to smaller passenger cars is having a limited impact on the market for automotive electronics – but the overall sales fall is significantly effecting demand.
