Summary

When the Apple iPhone was announced in 2007, many predicted dramatic changes in the handset market almost overnight. Apple’s exclusive deals with mobile network operators such as AT&T, was followed by the subsequent and predictable “jailbreaking” or unlocking of iPhones to work on any network and run almost any application. The original iPhone feature set and immediate “hacking” of the iPhone resulted in suggestions that the iPhone was an unsuitable tool for business as it lacked even basic security features. Strategy Analytics examines whether the announcement of iPhone 2.0 software, SDK, inclusion of a number of business features such as Exchange ActiveSync support and forthcoming 3G iPhone will be enough to give Apple a foothold in the business market.
