RFMD, Skyworks and TriQuint Steer Gallium Arsenide Industry Growth

Top Three Account for 50% of $3.6 Billion Market

Boston, MA - 5 September 2008 - In Strategy Analytics' annual ranking of the world's top GaAs device manufacturers, RFMD, Skyworks and TriQuint remained at the helm of the Gallium Arsenide (GaAs) industry in 2007, driving annual growth of 17% year-on-year. Overall, the GaAs device market was worth $3.6 billion in 2007 with the top three companies accounting for 50% of the market.

Other North American companies, including Avago Technologies and M/A-COM, accounted for seven out of the top ten GaAs device manufacturers on a global basis. Strategy Analytics expects that North American companies will continue to dominate the landscape in 2008 and beyond.

"TriQuint has continued to grow from strength to strength in 2008, while both Skyworks and RFMD have successfully implemented strategies to target a broader range of markets," noted Asif Anwar, Director of Strategy Analytics' GaAs service. "The market leaders are in a strong position to strengthen their leadership in 2008 and 2009 if they can maintain a strong mix of high volume and specialty market capabilities."

With revenues growing by over 50% year-on-year, Strategy Analytics' annual ranking exercise also shows Taiwan-based Win Semiconductor entering the top ten in 2007. Strategy Analytics' analysis confirms TriQuint remained the world's number one foundry, but Win Semiconductor is pulling away from other pure play foundry companies and will increasingly challenge TriQuint for the number one spot.

Other key findings from "GaAs Device Vendor Market Share 2007: North America" and "GaAs Device Vendor Market Share 2007: Asia Pacific and Europe" include:

  • Japanese manufacturers accounted for over 13% of the global GaAs device market in 2007.
  • Mitsubishi Electric remained the largest Japanese supplier of GaAs and was joined by Eudyna Devices in the top ten.
  • The largest European GaAs device manufacturer will be UMS moving forwards. UMS ranked 12th in 2007.
