Nokia's Lumia 925 Delivers Mixed Signals on Hardware Specs

Strategy Analytics' Handset Component Technologies team was invited to the launch event in London for Nokia's latest Lumia smartphone, and our first impressions of the hardware specs of the Lumia 925 are mixed. The device is positioned as a new interpretation of the Lumia 920 and has a strong emphasis on imaging. On the plus side the device is much thinner and lighter than the Lumia 920, which was launched in Q4 2012. It also incorporates an impressive 6-lens camera module, the first ever in a smartphone. However, the Lumia 925 does not offer a quantum leap in hardware specs over the Lumia 920 and, following the launch five days ago of the Lumia 928 on Verizon Wireless's network, sends some mixed signals to users.

Keywords: 3G, 4G, Camera, CMOS, Display, LTE, Memory, OLED, Qi, Sensor, smartphone, Wireless Charging, Components, Devices, Handsets, Wireless, Display, iPhone, Storage, Windows Phone 8, Apple, HTC, Nokia, Qualcomm, Samsung, Sony, ST Microelectronics, Toshiba, Batteries, Displays, Input, Media & Storage, Power Management, Semiconductors, Software

Qualcomm Expands Beyond Mobility

Today's consumers are embracing smartphones and tablets more than ever and are increasingly becoming aware key brands like Android, Apple, Nokia and Microsoft. Chipset supplier Qualcomm is also gaining visibility, as the firm is powering almost a third of today's smartphones with its "Snapdragon" processors. We are seeing a halo effect in the smartphone space due to Qualcomm's attractive Snapdragon branding, analogous to the powerful "Intel Inside" branding in the PC market, which is pivotal in winning OEM, carrier, retailer and consumer mindshare. Qualcomm, without any doubt has become an influential force fuelling today's mobile devices growth with its innovative hardware solutions. But, the San Diego, USA-based company is also swiftly expanding beyond mobility into high-growth areas such as enabling technologies, apps & software, enterprise solutions and M2M benefitting from the Atheros acquisition earlier this year.

Keywords: Qualcomm, Snapdragon, S4, Atheros, HTML5, Android, Tablets, ARM, Cortes A9, Snapdragon S4, Hexagon DSP, Adreno GPU, M2M, Wireless Health, Internet of Everything, CDMA, WCDMA, LTE, Multimode, MIMO, SKIFTA, AllJoyn, DLNA, NFC, M2M, Apple, Sprint, mHealth, Enabling Technologies
